Wood is also used for cooking in households. We hear stories of villages where the trees disappear in and around the village. And wood is expensive for the relatively poor population. We know of the existence of ‘high-efficiency cookstoves’, in which the fire is ‘trapped’ and burns hotter and more efficient. We find a large manufacturer in Myanmar willing to deliver six stoves for free, so that experience can be gained in the village. The government has a subsidy program to purchase these cookstoves.
