Phaya Taung in numbers

What does a boarding school ‘in the middle of nowhere in Myanmar’ looks like … what does it mean ? No income but donations. No supermarket but farms and their own plantation. It isn’t just a school, it’s a community. Where (mostly children) sleep, eat, wash, play, excercise and laugh. It’s quite bussiness to run !

You will find:

  • 140 monks and volunteers
  • over 1,100 children, of which
    • 669 girls
    • 460 boys

What do they eat ?

  • 3 x 200 kilos of rice
  • 3 x vegetables
  • 3 x fish or meat
  • 17 kilos of onions
  • 12 kilos of garlic
  • 28 kilos of salt
  • 14 liters of oil

What do they need for that (before all energy saving projects) ?

  • 22,5 liters of diesel
  • 2 m3 firewood

How much does that cost ?

  • 1 meal cost ca € 0.16 per child
  • daily costs of meals are € 646.=
  • Yearly costs of meals are € 193,752.=
  • That ios a lot of money in a country where a good ‘street food meal’ costs € 1.35.
