The monks fulfill important social functions, such as caring for those in need (poor, sick), giving advice and sometimes education. In principle, everything in Phaya Taung is centred around the proper functioning of the boarding school. The monks live in smaller buildings.

There is a ‘First Monk’ (the ‘Phonghyi’), some other leaders, ‘ordinary’ monks and novices.
