The village

… of Phaya Taung. 270 households that live on fishing, agriculture and some crafts such as a carpenter, a blacksmith and a sewing workshop. There are also a few small shops and boatmen who run taxi services across the lake. It’s not a wealthy community, but they make it. Like everywhere in Myanmar, the sense of community prevails, certainly stimulated by the monastery and the charismatic figure of Phongyi.
